State Member for Forest Hill, Neil Angus MP, today joined with the Blackburn South Cricket Club to open the Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association (BHRDCA) 2015/16 season.
Mr Angus was delighted to bowl the first ball of the season to BHRDCA President, Peter Rosenthal, in front of a big crowd at Mirabooka Reserve in Blackburn South.
“Now the football season is over, it is time for the cricketers to dust of the whites and get out on the field,” Mr Angus said. “I am delighted to celebrate the start of another cricket season here today and wish all the local clubs well for the season”, said Mr Angus.
Box Hill Reporter District Cricket Association commences it 126th season this weekend for juniors, seniors and veterans. The juniors will field 174 sides across 5 different age groups, an increase of 10% of sides on last season. Seniors retain 128 sides across 13 different grades and the veterans remain the biggest competition in the Southern Hemisphere with 62 sides competing across 8 grades. This includes 6 new clubs this season.
BHRDCA President Peter Rosenthal said, “A long winter is about to end and we are excited about the coming season. New junior and veterans clubs continue to invigorate the association and our representative cricket in January will be a highlight as BHRDCA sides compete against other associations across the state.”
Blackburn South President Mark Lane also welcomed the new season saying, “The club has grown this season adding another senior side and continuing to have a strong junior program which has steadily grown over the last 5 years. It is fantastic to have our local member Neil Angus help to launch the season by delivering the first ball. Neil is a great supporter of our club and the association.”
